Remember Loved Ones in May!
The month of May is a time to remember loved ones, and those that have guided us along this path of life.
May is such an important month to me. I hope most of you don't just see it as the introduction to Summer. It is a solemn month of remembrance to those that paved the road of life for us. I have listed some of the dates and why they are important to me.
May 4 - International Fire Fighters Day
Pat Ward was a fire fighters fire fighter. A graduate of the Oklahoma State University School of Fire Safety, Pat formed the Sangamon County Rescue Squad, helped form the Williamsville, IL Fire Department, was Springfield Commissioner of Public Safety, the first Public Safety Director, and was responsible for guiding Springfield Fire Department to their first Class One designation. But he was also my mentor, and second dad. I will always remember Pat, not just in May.
May 4 - National Weather Observers Day
I'm a weather geek, what can I say?
May 6 - National Nurses Day
My Sister and niece are nurses, and I have many friends in the nursing field. Best nurse I ever saw in action was Bobbie Cunningham, now at Springfield Clinic.
May 8 - National Teacher Day
Where would we be without the guidance of teachers. Miss Bloomfield was my First Grade teacher at Withrow Grade School, and one of my nieces is a teacher in Pleasant Plains, IL. My nephew is a Dean at John A. Logan Junior College.
May 13 - Mother's Day
Love and miss you mom! You left way to early and we would have been so terrific!
May 15 - Peace Officer Memorial Day
Special to me since it was part of my calling in life. I remember my friend David Tapscott, Springfield PD taken in 1979 and Lee Bensyl, Illinois State Police, 1988.
May 20 - 26 - EMS Appreciation Week
Another one of my callings as a Deputy Sheriff - Paramedic and Sangamon County Rescue Squad member. Best Paramedic, yep, Bobbie Cunningham.
May 28 - Memorial Day
No need for details. Thank you.
Also on May 28, lets don't forget one of my favorite days, National Hamburger Day!
Remember and learn!
